This quarter, the deadline for activation is September 14, 2022. So in order to earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in the bonus categories from July 1 – September 30, 2022, you need to activate by then.

Yes! In fact, you’ll earn 5% cash back for all category purchases you’ve made for the whole quarter (up to $1,500), no matter when you activate as long as it’s by September 14, 2022. So if you activate any day before then, you’ll earn 5% cash back for category purchases dating back to July 1, 2022.

If you do not activate by September 14, 2022, you will not earn 5% cash back in the bonus categories. You can activate the next quarter’s categories starting September 15, 2022. Yes, please activate 5% cash back on all of your Chase Freedom accounts to make sure you earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in bonus categories each quarter (on each account).

Activation is free and easy! There are no other restrictions around activating your 5% cash back. Activate your 5% cash back each quarter, and you will earn bonus rewards as long as your account is open and not in default at the time of fulfillment.

You’ll earn unlimited 1% cash back on all purchases. In addition, you’ll earn 4% cash back on up to $1,500 spent in combined purchases in the bonus categories from July 1 - September 30, 2022. That’s a total of 5% cash back, which means you can earn up to $75 cash back ($15 cash back plus your $60 bonus cash back). You must activate your 5% cash back by September 14, 2022 and use your card between July 1 - September 30, 2022 in the bonus categories to earn bonus cash back.

Merchants who accept Visa/Mastercard credit cards are assigned a merchant code which is determined by the merchant or its processor in accordance with Visa/Mastercard procedures based on the kinds of products and services they primarily sell. We group similar merchant codes into categories for purposes of making rewards offers to you. Please note we make every effort to include all relevant merchant codes in its rewards categories. However, even though a merchant or some of the items that it sells may appear to fit within a rewards category, the merchant may not have a merchant code in that category. When this occurs, purchases with that merchant won’t qualify for reward offers on purchases in that category. Purchases submitted by you, an authorized user, or the merchant through third-party payment accounts, mobile or wireless card readers, online or mobile digital wallets, or similar technology will not qualify in a rewards category if the technology is not set up to process the purchase in that rewards category.

In order for a purchase to qualify for 5% cash back in this quarter’s bonus categories, the purchase must post to your account by the last day of the quarter. Sometimes a merchant will charge your card on a date after you make a purchase, such as the shipping date, delivery date, or installation date, and as a result the purchase may not post to your account until after the end of the quarter.

We’ll announce the categories each quarter when it’s time to activate, so you’ll know where you’re earning 5% cash back for the coming quarter. Purchases in the ‘Walmart’ category include purchases at Walmart Discount Stores, Walmart SuperCenters, Walmart Neighborhood Markets, www.walmart.com, Walmart branded gas stations operated by Walmart, any other Walmart branded retail stores operated by Walmart and purchases made with Walmart Pay. Please note that merchants operating within or on Walmart premises such as merchants that sell fast food, beauty services, and gas stations that are not Walmart branded are not included in this category. Walmart affiliate businesses such as Sam’s Club and local delivery merchants such as Shipt are also not included in this category Same page link to Terms and Conditions reference 2.

Includes purchases made using your Chase Freedom card with PayPal. Purchases made using PayPal at merchants in the current 5% quarterly categories will be awarded a total of 5% Cash Back rewards on up to $1,500 in combined purchases. Payments made through the Xoom transfer service are not eligible for 5%. Must have/open a PayPal account. Please note, Friends and Family or Person-to-Person (P2P) transactions made with your Chase Freedom card on PayPal may be prohibited or not eligible for 5%.

Merchants in the Grocery Stores category include supermarkets, merchants that offer a full service grocery line of merchandise including a deli and bakery as well as smaller grocery stores. Some merchants that sell grocery items are not included in this category; for example, larger stores that sell a wide variety of goods, such as Target®, Walmart® Same page link to Terms and Conditions reference 2, discount stores, warehouse clubs, and some smaller merchants such as drugstores and merchants that specialize in only a few grocery items. Purchases made at gas stations from merchants who also operate grocery stores are not included in this category. Delivery service merchants will not be included in this category unless the merchant has set up such purchases to be classified in the grocery stores category.

Merchants in the select streaming services category specialize in delivering music and video content over the internet. Only subscriptions paid for, or purchases made with the following select merchants will qualify for this category: Apple Music, Apple TV+, Disney+, ESPN+, Fubo TV, HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, Pandora, Paramount+, Peacock, Showtime, SiriusXM, Sling, Spotify, YouTube Premium, YouTube TV and Vudu. The listed merchant(s) should not be considered sponsors or co-sponsors of this program. All trademarks are the property of their respective owner(s).

Merchants in the gas stations category sell automotive gasoline that can be paid for either at the pump or inside the station and may or may not sell other goods or services at their location. Merchants that do not specialize in selling automotive gasoline are not included in this category; for example, truck stops, boat marinas, oil and propane distributors, and home heating companies.

Merchants in the home improvement stores category specialize in selling a variety of home improvement supplies, from larger home improvement stores to smaller hardware stores. Merchants that sell a wide variety of general goods which may include home improvement supplies, for example, warehouse clubs, discount stores, or grocery stores, are not included in this category. Also, merchants that specialize in home furnishings, garden and landscaping supplies are not included.

These merchants operate warehouse-style retail stores, sell in bulk, and concentrate on price appeal. Merchants sell a full range of household goods and merchandise, groceries, furniture, electronics, appliances, and auto supplies. These merchants may or may not have membership requirements. Gas, fuel, wholesale specialty service purchases such as travel, insurance, cell phone and home improvement will not qualify in this category. Delivery service merchants will be included if they classify as a wholesale club merchant.

Only purchases for internet, cable, satellite television and radio, cellular, wireless data, and landline services will qualify. Purchases of equipment are not included. If you purchase or pay for your internet, cable and satellite television, phone or related services in a merchant's store that is not classified by the merchant in the applicable services category, the purchase or payment will not qualify; for example, phone bill payments in a merchant's store that is classified as a telephone equipment store.

The eBay category includes Buy It Now and Auction purchases made on the ebay.com marketplace and eBay mobile apps Same page link to Terms and Conditions reference 2. Transactions must post to your credit card statement during the qualifying quarter to be eligible.

Merchants in the car rental agencies category rent vehicles for the purpose of driver and passenger transportation. Car rentals not booked directly with the car rental agency will not qualify; for example, car rentals purchased through travel agencies, discount travel sites, vacation clubs, tour operators, or as part of a package offered by merchants such as cruise lines and railways. Merchants that provide RV rentals or vehicle rentals for the purpose of hauling are not included in this category. Qualifying car rental agency purchases made through Chase Ultimate Rewards® will only earn a total of 5%.

Merchants in the movie theaters category show motion pictures to an audience, including at drive-in theaters. Theaters that provide live entertainment and merchants that sell and rent movies or provide movie subscription or streaming services are not included in this category. Purchases other than your tickets will not be included in the category unless they classify as a movie theater; for example, in theatre dining, food and beverage, or merchandise purchases.

Merchants in the Select Live Entertainment category sell tickets for in-person entertainment such as major sporting events, zoos and aquariums, concerts, theatrical productions, museums, tourist attractions and exhibits, amusement parks, circuses, carnivals, bands, and entertainers. Ticket agencies selling on behalf of the entertainment venue are included. Some merchants that sell tickets for in-person entertainment are not included in this category; for example, movie theaters, bowling alleys, horse racing tracks, casinos, and dance hall/clubs. Purchasing from a hotel/concierge is not included nor excursions or purchases as part of a travel package.

You’d be surprised! You can earn up to $75 bonus cash back each quarter ($15 cash back plus your $60 bonus cash back), and you always earn unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases! Here’s a look at how your cash back can add up over just one quarter:

“Cash Back rewards” are the rewards you earn under the program. Cash Back rewards are tracked as points and each $1 in Cash Back rewards earned is equal to 100 points. You may simply see “Cash Back” in marketing materials when referring to the rewards you earn. When you use points to redeem for cash, each point is worth $0.01 (one cent), which means that 100 points equals $1 in redemption value. You can use your points to redeem for cash through an account statement credit or electronic deposit into an eligible checking or savings account held by a financial institution located in the United States.

No. You will earn a total of 5% cash back even on purchases that may qualify in two or more eligible categories; for example, using digital wallets at a restaurant when both are categories or buying gas at a gas station attached to a grocery store when both gas stations and grocery stores are categories.

No. You will always earn cash back on purchases made with your Chase Freedom card. However, a cash advance is not considered a purchase.

You earn a total of 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases at Gas Stations, Car Rental Agencies, Movie Theaters and on Select Live Entertainment from July 1 to September 30, 2022. That means you earn 4% bonus cash back in addition to your 1% standard cash back you earn for a total of 5% cash back.

On your statement, you’ll see your rewards totaled as points in the Rewards Summary section. Your 1% standard cash back will appear as it normally does. Your 4% cash back will be broken out separately into categories with a description of “Bonus from 3Q 5% category”. And if you activate after the quarter has started, you will still get your 5% bonus cash back on all purchases made since July 1, 2022. It will show as “Retro(active) 3Q 5% cat(egory) bonus”.

In most cases, once you activate your 5% cash back, you'll see your rewards on the same statement you see your purchases. However, if your purchase was made within 1-2 weeks before your statement closing date, you may see your corresponding rewards on your next statement.
