Common Questions about merchants/categories.
Question number 1Q. What determines whether a merchant falls within a particular rewards category?
Answer to question number 1A. Merchants who accept Visa/MasterCard credit cards are assigned a merchant code which is determined by the merchant or its processor in accordance with Visa/MasterCard procedures based on the kinds of products and services they primarily sell. We group similar merchant codes into categories for purposes of making rewards offers to you. Please note we make every effort to include all relevant merchant codes in its rewards categories. However, even though a merchant or some of the items that it sells may appear to fit within a rewards category, the merchant may not have a merchant code in that category. When this occurs, purchases with that merchant won’t qualify for reward offers on purchases in that category. Purchases submitted by you, an authorized user, or the merchant through third-party payment accounts, mobile or wireless card readers, online or mobile digital wallets, or similar technology will not qualify in a rewards category if the technology is not set up to process the purchase in that rewards category.
Question number 2Q. What happens if a merchant charges my Freedom Card for a rewards category purchase after this quarter?
Answer to question number 2A. In order for a purchase to qualify for 5% cash back in this quarter’s rewards categories, the merchant must submit the charges to your credit card by the last day of the quarter. For example, if the merchant charges your card on a different date than you placed your purchase such as the shipping date, delivery date, or installation date and that date is after the end of this quarter, the purchase will not earn bonus 5% cash back.
Question number 3Q. What types of purchases qualify for 5% cash back this quarter?Answer to question number 3A. You’ll earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases from July 1 through September 30, 2015 when you use your card for purchases at Gas stations and Kohl’s®.
Question number 4Q. What types of merchants are in the Gas stations category?
Answer to question number 4A. Merchants in the Gas stations category sell automotive gasoline that can be paid for either at the pump or inside the station, and may or may not sell other goods or services at their location. Please note that some merchants that do not specialize in selling automotive gasoline are not included in this category; for example, truck stops, boat marinas, oil and propane distributors, and home heating companies.
Question number 5Q. What types of purchases qualify for 5% cash back in the Kohl’s® category?
Answer to question number 5A. Purchases made in-store at Kohl's® and at Kohls.com are included. Kohl's gift cards purchased at any location other than Kohl's or Kohls.com are not eligible for 5% cash back. Purchases that do not register to Chase as being purchased at Kohls.com, such as merchandise which is fulfilled or purchased out of the inventory of a Kohl's affiliate or partner, will not qualify for 5% cash back even if the customer initiated the transaction by visiting Kohls.com.
These lists are examples of merchants where you will earn 5% cash back this quarter. Please call the number on the back of your card if you have any questions regarding what is included.
